Sound effects

So part of the package of being the composer for the game studio I work for is being their Sound Designer. This means I get to make all the sounds for the games that we do. For anyone who happens to be a sound designer that is reading this:

My hat is off to you and you have my utmost respect.

This is a LOT harder than I imagined it would be! Thankfully I have friends out here in LA that know Pro Tools a little better than I do who showed me how to utilize RTAS plug-ins. It took me 1.5 hours to do THREE sound effects! I'm supposed to have all the ones on my list done by the middle of the week and a few ideas for the demo level theme song!

Ariel = no free time this month = me :(

What Ariel has going on this month:
-finishing up all sounds and music for demo by end of Feb.
-work review (at the other job) and trying to get hired as part of staff
-getting February WoW minis battlegrounds stuff
-housing a friend from Florida sometime mid-month for a few days
-Feb 21-22 going to San Diego to playtest armies for Dark moon faire tourney
-Feb 27-Mar.1 Dark Moon Faire tournament in San Francisco

Is it March yet? =\

Gimme the old school NES plz

So while researching sound effects for the new game I am writing for, I stumbled upon this:

http://vtatila.kapsi.fi/nes_sound.html

This site had a very good article on how to get the NES sound onto your PC! I'm a huge 8-bit fan, so I went to one of the recommended sites:

http://www.wayfar.net/0xf00000_overview.php

This site promotes a NES cartrige/hardware midi interface. It's a bit pricy, but I was pretty impressed by it. I think I might be picking up one of these! I just have to get my old NES from home...

New Project = more time

So after crunching out Melvin's Meltdown in 3 weeks, I've already been given my next assignment!

I'm hopefully going to be in Vegas and meeting up with Marc and the rest of my old Warhammer guild. I'll also be up in San Francisco end of February for a WoW Minis Tournament and will get to see him there too. Guess I should start working on a demo huh?

My cousin Matt finally got to play my game the other night. He liked it and said I did a great job. For those of you who don't know my cousin, he works for a game studio and just released Fracture alongside LucasArts. Fracture is on XBOX360 and I think PS3? Imagine halo but your gun change your terrain. Pretty cool twist on a shooter game.

No Florida for awhile I'm afraid. I'll be stuck in Cali for the winter!

Tomb Raider

So last night I was chatting with a good friend of mine, Marc Senteney. He's the art designer for the new Tomb Raider game that just came out today. He loved my tracks so much that he's gonna use the level theme in his next art demo reel! He's also gonna try to push my stuff up to his superiors and get me upstate so I can work on the next tomb raider game with him!

FINISHED!

So after a painful 3 weeks of having WAY too much crap to do, I've managed to finish writing music for Melvin's Meltdown! Tonight we are going to present our game to Microsoft and hopefully it will be on XBOX Live soon!

If you want to hear the tracks I wrote for the game, I've uploaded them here:

Pro Tools Studio is up! ...kind of!

So last night I finally setup my MBox2 and Pro Tools LE 7.4 on my Mac! I haven't touched Pro Tools in 3 years, so hopefully I can remember enough to get all this done! I'm hoping I can get some help with my wiring setup. The only sound engineer I know out here is going to New York tomorrow morning and probably won't be able to help me tonight!

Other than that, things have been good. I have a very strong direction of what I am going to record tonight. My deadline has been extended to Sunday!

In other random news, you can play Street Fighter IV at the Family Fun arcade on Devonshire and Balboa. I want to go!!! ;_;
