Tomb Raider

So last night I was chatting with a good friend of mine, Marc Senteney. He's the art designer for the new Tomb Raider game that just came out today. He loved my tracks so much that he's gonna use the level theme in his next art demo reel! He's also gonna try to push my stuff up to his superiors and get me upstate so I can work on the next tomb raider game with him!

FINISHED!

So after a painful 3 weeks of having WAY too much crap to do, I've managed to finish writing music for Melvin's Meltdown! Tonight we are going to present our game to Microsoft and hopefully it will be on XBOX Live soon!

If you want to hear the tracks I wrote for the game, I've uploaded them here:

Pro Tools Studio is up! ...kind of!

So last night I finally setup my MBox2 and Pro Tools LE 7.4 on my Mac! I haven't touched Pro Tools in 3 years, so hopefully I can remember enough to get all this done! I'm hoping I can get some help with my wiring setup. The only sound engineer I know out here is going to New York tomorrow morning and probably won't be able to help me tonight!

Other than that, things have been good. I have a very strong direction of what I am going to record tonight. My deadline has been extended to Sunday!

In other random news, you can play Street Fighter IV at the Family Fun arcade on Devonshire and Balboa. I want to go!!! ;_;

Letting my inner-dork get the best of me

So this weekend I thought I'd take a stab at competing for a Dell XPS laptop by playing in a Warcraft Minatures Sealed Booster at the Darkmoon Faire in Anaheim. The game hasn't been released yet (Nov. 11), but I had the chance to get ahold of minis and learn the game earlier from BlizzCon and really liked the game. I got pretty good at it and thought I would have a decent shot at winning. 30 people entered, and the top 8 played the finals the next day. Everyone played 5 games and the people with the best record made top 8. I placed 5th, going 4-1 (Tie breaker rules made me 5th rather than 2nd because we had a few ties at 4-1 and other people ahead of me played opponents with better records than I did).

What's a sealed booster format? It's when you get 2 booster packs (6 minis total) and make a 3 man army from them.

Top 8 DRAFTED and were eliminated after they lost. We were the first people ever to draft that were not Upper Deck employees. I got an amazing team and did very well, scoring a win. The top 4 then re-drafted again and we all were video-taped and interviewed by the lead designer of the game (check upperdeck's website for an update, I might be on there!).

That's how I did. Corle was the guy who won the tourney (and the guy I lost to). I placed 3rd, which wasn't too shabby considering this was my first gaming competition ever.

Oh and drafting btw is when you look at all the cards in the booster, take 1 card from it, and pass it to your left. We had 4 people, 8 boosters, with one booster opened at a time till cards ran out. It was VERY difficult!

What's even more difficult? Writing this music by Friday! AAAAHHH!! :-\

Asshole Mario

So last night I had our producer come by my place and showed him some of the ideas that I had (along with N+) and he seemed to approve. So the soundtrack to this game will be one long track that's delightfully loopable and hopefully you wont get tired of it!

In return for showing him N+, he showed me this video:

If you've ever played any Mario game you will appreciate this and laugh.

N+ with Bach = ???

So after my deadline was pushed from January to November 16th, I've had to kick things up a few notches (which left no time for blogging). I've been brainstorming for ideas with our producer and I finally came up with something that will work. I've decided to just have one continous long loopable track, similar to N+'s music. The music is going to have heavy influences of Baroque music and will give players a "driving feel" as they solve the puzzles. Oh and if you have an XBOX 360, go download N+ from the Marketplace. There's a free demo and it's really a pretty neat game.

Hopefully I should have Pro Tools 7 up and running and I can begin recording!
